A 42,508-square-metre plant at Jhajjar, built in fifteen months
BEUMER Group, the family-owned material handling group based in Beckum, Germany, inaugurated a new manufacturing plant on 12 December 2025 at Reliance's Model Economic Township (MET City) in Jhajjar, Haryana, an investment of INR 2 billion that makes BEUMER the first German company with production in the township. The verified figures cluster as follows. The plant stands on a 42,508-square-metre plot with 22,285 square metres of built-up manufacturing area, and was completed in about 15 months, from the foundation stone in June 2024 to the start of operations in December 2025; Indian trade coverage puts expected employment at about 750 people. Its stated production scope covers airport baggage handling systems, logistics conveying and sorting equipment, cement packing and loading machinery, and components for minerals and mining machines. BEUMER India itself, founded in 2003 as a two-person Mumbai office, now employs more than 400 full-time staff with an annual business volume of EUR 150 million.
The scope line: components for mining machines, not whole conveyor systems
Our read: the buying significance of Jhajjar sits in one phrase of BEUMER's release. For minerals and mining, the plant will produce components for machines - not complete overland conveyor systems - while cement gets packing and loading machinery, and the airport and logistics segments get full systems. A buyer pricing a conveyor package with Indian content should therefore treat the announcement as a change in where components and fabricated scope are made, and ask which line items of a given bid actually move to Jhajjar, rather than assuming the whole system has become local. “This expansion reflects BEUMER Group's strategic focus and commitment to long-term success in India. The new production site plays an important part in our global factory footprint, strengthening our position as a quality leader and partner of choice for our customers,” said Rudolf Hausladen, chief executive of BEUMER Group. Footprint language of that kind describes the network, not the content of any single order; the scope question above is the one that has to be answered in the bid documents.
Twenty years in India: ENEXCO, FAM India and the Naurangpur plant
Jhajjar is the fourth step of a deliberate build-up, not a beachhead. BEUMER's own account lists the acquisition of ENEXCO Technologies India, which strengthened its cement offering, and of FAM India, which did the same for minerals and mining, alongside an earlier manufacturing unit at Naurangpur, also in Haryana, and a new Gurugram head office opened in 2023. The group's Indian organisation now covers engineering, sales and manufacturing in the two bulk sectors this site follows, cement and mining. “This factory is not just for India, it will serve Beumer customers globally, delivering the Beumer quality that we are known for,” said Nitin Vyas, chief executive of BEUMER Group's Asia cluster, who also put the build at 15 months from land identification to grand opening. Export production cuts both ways for Indian buyers: Jhajjar's capacity is shared with the group's worldwide order book, so local fabrication does not by itself guarantee local delivery priority when orders compete.
Lead times, local content and spares: what Jhajjar can and cannot promise yet
For the scope that is genuinely made there, localisation removes real friction: imported line items carry shipping legs, customs exposure and currency risk that a Haryana fabrication route avoids, and spares for Indian-made components no longer wait on an overseas works. Two production sites in one state - Naurangpur and now Jhajjar - also give the Indian organisation a deeper base for the service and retrofit work that follows installed systems. What BEUMER has not published is equally specific: no plant capacity in tonnes or units, no statement of what share of a mining conveyor package Jhajjar will fabricate, and no delivery-time commitments. The employment figure of about 750 comes from Indian trade coverage, not from BEUMER's release. Until a named mining or cement order is publicly tied to Jhajjar output, the plant is a capacity fact, not a delivery guarantee, and bids should be read that way.
Green-building targets are design intentions, not measured results
The sustainability numbers in the release are intentions with a verification path, and should be filed as such. BEUMER says the plant is aiming for certification by the Indian Green Building Council - it does not yet hold it - and that the building is expected to achieve 20 to 30 percent energy savings and 30 to 50 percent water savings compared with conventional industrial buildings, with renewable energy sources to be incorporated. None of these figures is a measured operating result. The township context is the checkable part. MET City already hosts Japanese and South Korean manufacturers, and BEUMER is its first German production unit; for a buyer auditing a supplier's local supply chain, a plant inside an established industrial township, with utilities and logistics in place, is a different risk proposition from a greenfield site standing alone.
Before pricing an India-localised package: four checks
First, require the fabrication split in the bid: which packages and line items are made at Jhajjar, which at Naurangpur, and which are still imported, stated per line item rather than as a plant-level claim. Second, where local content carries weight - Indian public tenders and project financing among them - get the qualifying scope and its certification named in the contract, not inferred from the plant's address. Third, tie any lead-time improvement to the product lines the plant actually runs, and ask how capacity is allocated between Indian and export orders when the order book tightens. Finally, contract spares stocking and service response from the Indian organisation explicitly; proximity shortens the route, but only a written commitment shortens the queue. This article covers manufacturing localisation by a systems supplier; single-product plant moves - idler production in South Africa and the United States and a belt-products facility in Chile - were covered in our PROK, Douglas Rulmeca and ASGCO articles, and where BEUMER builds its systems is a separate question from how its project conveyor packages are bought.
Manufacturer announcements and our analysis are distinguished. Product claims require verification for the specific application.
