The old label is an engineering document

A spare drum motor is often requested with a diameter, length and power rating. Those details can start a conversation, but the original identification may answer questions that the dimensions cannot. Photograph the complete nameplate while it is readable and link the image to the conveyor's asset record.

Interroll's June 2015 manual for its i, S, S/A and D series illustrates identification records containing the motor type, serial number, speed and dimensions. Its type-plate descriptions also identify electrical data. This is documentation for those established series, not evidence that a similarly sized current product is interchangeable.

Compare mechanical fit and electrical configuration separately

Prepare a mechanical drawing showing the existing shaft ends, mounting arrangement and available space. Include the covering or profile if fitted. Ask the supplier to mark any departure from the original assembly rather than describing the proposal simply as an equivalent motor.

Provide the electrical supply information and the installed drive-control details to the responsible electrical engineer. Rulmeca's September 2024 bulk-handling catalogue instructs installers to check nameplate information against the specification and addresses motor protection. A matching power figure is therefore only one part of the review. Request the applicable connection documents for the exact supplied variant.

Confirm orientation before the spare arrives

Record cable or terminal-box access and the installed orientation in photographs referenced to the drawing. Ask the replacement supplier which mounting instructions apply to its specific model. The older Interroll manual distinguishes orientation requirements between series; transferring one model's permitted positions to another would lose that distinction.

Have mechanical and electrical reviewers close their questions before ordering. This article does not provide a wiring procedure or a method for testing an energized drive. Those tasks belong to qualified personnel using the supplied instructions.

Keep the approved substitution with the asset

The final order record should identify the delivered reference, drawing revision, electrical variant, accessories and any changes approved for installation. Archive it beside the old identification so that the next replacement starts from a traceable configuration.

A spare becomes useful when its interfaces are understood before the outage. The original illustrations show the information boundary of that review, with no invented nameplate ratings or universal replacement dimensions.

Manufacturer announcements and our analysis are distinguished. Product claims require verification for the specific application.
