The development
A Continental-authored notice published by NIBA on 3 August 2026 presented MultiProtect TX for textile conveyor-belt monitoring. The product description explains that magnetic inserts embedded in the belt are read to detect longitudinal damage and splice distortion.
The important distinction is that the belt participates in the sensing arrangement. The proposal is more specific than adding an unspecified external sensor to a conveyor. Continental markets the offering for new installations and upgrades; that statement is not confirmation of compatibility with every installed belt.
The belt becomes part of the digital scope
Our analysis is that this changes the information required before an upgrade is quoted. Belt construction, joint arrangement and any preparation of the existing belt belong in the discussion alongside sensors, reporting and commissioning. If essential belt work is omitted, an electronics-only quotation will not describe the complete change.
A later replacement belt also needs to preserve the agreed sensing arrangement. That links a routine mechanical purchase with the monitoring configuration, making a clear record of the supplied belt and its associated equipment useful for future maintenance.
What buyers should verify
A project review should identify the detection task, the belt-specific work and the site’s response to a reported event. A condition report and a machine protection function are different deliverables and should not be assumed to have the same scope.
Continental’s stated aims include earlier issue detection and maintenance planning. This article does not report an independent field trial or guarantee a reduction in downtime. The photographs provide bulk-conveyor context and do not show MultiProtect TX or its embedded inserts.
Manufacturer announcements and our analysis are distinguished. Product claims require verification for the specific application.
