Record what is supporting the screw section
A worn intermediate bearing can prompt an order for the same bore in a harder material. Before requesting that change, identify the hanger arrangement, bearing reference and mating shaft. Record where the part operates and the material passing through the conveyor.
KWS describes hanger bearings as replaceable plain or journal bearings supporting screw sections in multi-section conveyors. Its component guide identifies several bearing materials. That variety makes a full reference more useful than a request for a heavy-duty replacement of an approximate size.
Keep the mating shaft in the discussion
The KWS component guide gives material-specific considerations, including a hardened shaft requirement for its hard-iron bearing recommendation and a corresponding shaft insert for Stellite. Those examples illustrate why a bearing material cannot be reviewed independently of the part running inside it.
Ask the supplier to identify the shaft requirements of the exact proposed bearing. Provide the existing shaft specification and the inspection information it needs. If either member of the pair changes, request approval for the combination rather than assuming that an upgraded bearing can be fitted to the unchanged shaft.
Describe the handled material and environment
KWS's engineering guide relates bearing-series recommendations to the conveyed material, including abrasiveness. Its separate guidance on hanger styles also distinguishes structural arrangements for different duties. The bearing insert and the hanger structure are therefore separate entries in the enquiry.
Supply the material identity and condition, operating temperature information and other application details requested by the manufacturer. Ask for the selection basis and maintenance requirements for the offered combination. A previous material name on a stores label does not prove that every product with that name has the same properties or suitability.
Make the spare-part record useful next time
Request a drawing or component reference linking the bearing, hanger, shaft interface and any applicable lubrication arrangement. State the quantities and the conveyor positions they serve. Keep the approved configuration and instructions with the asset so that the next order can be checked against an identifiable assembly.
The original illustrations show the mating relationship and the supporting documentation. They do not provide fits, alignment tolerances or a predicted replacement interval. The procurement result is a reviewed component pair for a defined duty, rather than a material substitution by name alone.
Manufacturer announcements and our analysis are distinguished. Product claims require verification for the specific application.
